Can I have any Domain Name I Want?

Not necessarily. The Domain Name must consist of three parts, separated by full stops (i.e. www.company.com). The Domain Name must not already exist (you can check this by typing it into a browser like Internet Explorer and seeing what you get). We will currently register the following types of Domain:

If the domain name you choose does not exist, we will register it for you immediately.

What Happens to my Domain Name if I Leave GiteSites?

We are confident that you will remain happy with the cost and quality of our service. However, if you did decide to have your website hosted elsewhere, we would pass on ownership of the Domain Name to you. You would then be responsible for the cost and administration involved with renewing the Domain Name registration (usually done for 1 or 2 years at a time).

Be aware though, that if you are no longer being hosted on GiteSites dedicated webservers, you will no longer have access to our Control Panel.

What Technology is being Used to Run my Website?

All our websites are written using the three most common website technologies. HTML for the web pages, PHP for the dynamic content, and a MySQL database to store the data. These three technologies run literally millions of websites worldwide, and guarantee that your website will not become obsolete or unsupported in the foreseeable future.

Technical Note: All our Templates are designed using 100% CSS. This means that they conform to all the latest browser standards, can be very easily modified and will load faster than the majority of websites, which are designed using 'tables'.

How is my Data Backed Up? Is it Secure?

Your website and it's contents couldn't be safer. At GiteSites, our dedicated secure servers run behind a constantly updated firewall in a secure location. On top of this, daily backups are taken of all data, and these backups are stored in a separate location. In the unlikely event of a server crash or hacker attack, there will always be backup copies of your site to fall back on. Your data will never be lost.

What Happens after the First Year when I want to Renew?

We are confident that you will be happy with our service and your new website. By the end of the first year we are confident your website will be earning you more money and you will want to renew. We will contact you by mail or by email one month before your current contract is due to expire with the option of extending it. We will then send you an invoice which you can pay by cheque or electronic transfer. We will never delete your website unless you specifically inform us that you no longer want to renew your contract. In the case of late payments, we do however reserve the right to take your website temporarily offline.

When Can I Add a New Language?

The best time to have your site translated is obviously when it is being built. You can however have it translated at any time for the same price, it's never too late. For each additional language you have, a small flag will be placed at an appropriate place on your website to alternate between them.

What if I Want to Change Templates?

Once your Template has been built, it is still possible to change Template Styles. After a few years, rebranding your website and making some changes may not be a bad idea. This will however require some work and a fee will be involved, but this fee will be small compared to the cost of the original development. Contact the Design Team for a quote.

What is a POP3 Email Address? How do I Access it?

POP3 is a type of email protocol. It means that all your messages are stored on a remote server. You can log on to this server and read your messages over the internet any time you like, much like with hotmail or yahoo. We will send you a link and login details on how to do this. Also, with POP3 email accounts, you can set up your home computer to automatically download any new messages whenever it is connected to the internet, and alert you. Usually a program like Outlook Express will be used to do this. A local copy of the message is then stored on your computer. All details on how to do this will be sent out to you when you sign up with GiteSites and our Technical Support Team will be on hand to help with any problems you have.
